In this video, I walk through a contact tracing method developed in the 1970s — the Reactor Grid — that was standard practice for investigating syphilis outbreaks. Then I show the algorithm we built to replace it, and what that replacement actually required in practice.
The gap between those two things is a lot more interesting than it sounds.
